Global Read Aloud was started in 2010 by teacher Pernille Ripp. Ripp’s goal was to connect readers all over the world. Today, more than 1 million students participate in Global Real Aloud in Grades K-8 worldwide. To kick of Global Read Aloud, 7th graders participated in a mystery Skype with another class. After asking a series of questions, we found out our partner class is from Shiloh Middle School in Parma, Ohio! Connections have also been made with classes in Montana and New Jersey. GRA participants are reading and discussing the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, based on the true story of Salva Dut who was forced to flee his home due to war in Sudan. Students are excited about this book and we recommend that you continue the discussion at home!
