On October 12, Reeds Brook had the good fortune to host visiting artist Cilau Valadez, a 4th generation Huichol Yarn Artist from Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit, Mexico. Señor Valadez’s art explores contemporary themes incorporating indigenous symbols. Students enjoyed 45 minute sessions with the artist, who demonstrated his craft and talking about his experiences. Señor Valadez will be offering a Yarn Painting demonstration at Margaritas Restaurant this Thursday evening, in Orono, at 15 Mill Street, from 4 pm to 9 pm. Our sincere thanks to Señora Smith and Margaritas Restaurant’s Visiting Artist Program for arranging this unique cultural experience for Reeds Brook.
